1,000 Hectares of Forest Destroyed in Benguet Forest Fire

On February 20, 2020, at least 1,000 hectares of pine trees were destroyed in an ongoing forest fire in Mount Pulag Benguet.

As of the report, the forest continue to blaze on some parts of Barangay Ambassador in Tublay town in Benguet on Saturday morning. According to the BFP Bureau of Fire Protection in Tublay the fire started at 2:30 pm and up to 20 hectares of pine trees in Sitio Nalseb, Ambassador, Tublay, Benguet. As of the report, the fire started in Barangay Adaoay and spread to Barangay Anchokey and was again ignited by the small trees. And that time the fire again light up in Barangay Babalak, particularly in some parts of the popular Mt. Pulag.

And as the fire in Tublay Benguet is still ongoing, the authorities decided to not already declared fire out. After an inspection done yesterday, it shows that the smoke from the forest in Sitio Nasleb, Barangay Ambassador is emanating, as Philippine Star reported. As of yesterday, firefighters and police officers were trying to suppress the thinning fire, which could be fanned by the wind.

Based on the report of GMA News, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Benguet, firefighters use a piece of wood instead of water hoses to stop the flames. The BFP allegedly struggled to prevent widespread bush and forest fire in this part of Barangay Kabayang.
