The potato fields of Bargan Farm in Barangay Sadsadan, Bauko, Mountain Province, had a severe hailstorm on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, according to a video posted by Bayan Patroller Febe Hirap Bittuwon.

The hailstorm in their location lasted roughly an hour, according to Bittuwon, an agricultural worker at Bargan agricultural.

At exactly 2:12 p.m., her video was recorded. that day.

The hailstorm that hit Mountain Province on Tuesday was confirmed by Charmagne Varilla, Weather Specialist 1 at PAGASA’s Space Science Astronomy Section.

According to Varilla, one of the reasons for the hailstorm is the sporadic thunderstorms and rain showers brought on by the region’s dominant easterlies.

He claims that the Mountain Province’s steep terrain, which makes cumulonimbus clouds more likely to develop and produce hail, is another factor.

Locals described the experience as both surprising and exciting.

“It was extremely cold when we woke up, and there were white particles on the ground that looked like snow,” one resident from a high-altitude barangay said. “We don’t usually see anything like this, so many people went outside just to take pictures.”

Tourism workers in the area also reported increased activity as visitors traveled to witness the unusually cold weather conditions.
Local government units reminded residents to take precautions against the extreme cold, especially elderly individuals and children who may be vulnerable to respiratory illnesses. Health officials also advised residents to wear warm clothing and avoid prolonged exposure to low temperatures.

Meanwhile, disaster monitoring teams are verifying reports and assessing whether the phenomenon was actual snowfall or frost formation caused by near-freezing temperatures.

Meteorological experts note that while the Philippines does not experience regular snowfall, extreme cold conditions can occur in high-altitude areas like Mount Pulag and parts of Mountain Province, where temperatures can drop close to or below freezing during peak Amihan season.

However, confirmed snowfall remains extremely rare and usually very light if it occurs at all.

PAGASA is expected to release further updates as the cold spell continues across Northern Luzon. Residents are advised to stay updated on advisories as temperatures may remain low in the coming days.
