Bantayan Island is known for the white sand and beach resorts in the country. Besides, the five centuries old Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Church as considered being the first constructed and the oldest church in in the province of Cebu which was founded on June 11, 1580 in honor to the Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion by the Agustinian priests. The construction of the church building started in 1839 and was completed in 1863 marking as the oldest church in all regions of Visayas and Mindanao. When the church building was finished, Saint Peter was chosen as the patron saint.

There are many historical events happened to Bantayan Island such as the calamities and war that the church has become the hiding place for the inhabitants of the island. This is one of the reasons that you will notice once you get there if you examine the structural materials used for building the church, you will be amazed that it was constructed unique from other churches of the country because as you can see that the concrete wall was made of coral stones and the roof was originally made of Tisa Clay.

As you see the photos attached to this article, still remain the remarkable skillful crated architecture that the folks of the island preserved so much that the church was used not only for spiritual activities but is a tourists attracttour that must-be-seen.
