Dr. Carmina Fuentebella, a 26-year-old Doctor Shares Her COVID-19 Journey

The young physician revealed the reason why she almost gave up to herself because of COVID-19 and what made her fight.

With more than 1,000 medical frontliners that were infected by the coronavirus disease, some of them were already recovering from the disease, and that includes Dr. Carmina Fuentebella.

Dr. Carmina Fuentebella is a 26-year-old doctor and was infected with positive for the COVID-19 disease. She contracted the disease while treating her patients. She had felt back pain and fever. Also that time she was in a critical condition and had to be intubated.

Based on a video posted by ABS-CBN News, Dra. Fuentebella stressed that the tube was painful and she cannot move and speak. Every four (4) hours, a suctioned is performed to remove the phlegm and she will vomit.

Fuentebella said, “Everyday ‘yun gagawin… Napakasakit n’ya… Sabi ko doon sa mga co-residents ko ayoko na. Tanggalin na lang ‘yung tubo ko kasi pagod na pagod na ako.” 

As seen in the video, her family and friends always find ways to motivate her to fight for her life. Also, her fellow doctors and nurses posted some photos of her room and it gave her inspiration to fight against COVID-19.

She said, “Every day kong tinitingnan ‘yon. ‘Pag may mga oras na gusto ko na mag-give up, sisilipin ko ulit isa-isa ‘yung pictures namin na magkakasama tapos doon ko maiisip kailangan ko na namang lumaban ngayon.” 

The young doctor said that COVID-19 is not exempting anyone regardless of age. And now, she is still recovering. According to Fuentebella, she believes that, ‘that experience was given to her so she can be a better doctor.’

She also said that she is determined to be back on duty after she gets better to fight against coronavirus.

Recalling, the Philippines is one of the countries. And according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is going to be a long-term battle against the disease.

In the Philippines, the current total number of 8,488 cases of coronavirus confirmed. Out of the total number, 568 people died including some doctors.
