3 Family Members Arrested After Caught Gambling the Gov’t Cash Aid they Received

Three (3) family members got arrested after they were caught gambling using the alleged money they received from the government amid the strictly imposed ECQ.

On Saturday, the family was caught gambling at their home at Sitio 2, Barangay 37, Calayab, Laoag City. And later on, arrested for violating the enhanced community quarantine law.

The two women and a man were caught in the incident. With the cash bet of P372 on gambling. Also, cards were confiscated.

However, the two women admitted that they just received their P5,500 cash aid from the social amelioration program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

As it said, under the social amelioration program of the DSWD, the cash assistance will be given to the low-income households, including senior citizens, persons with a disability, single parents, overseas Filipinos in distress, and pregnant mothers, to help those who were affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the three suspects will face charges in violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or Anti-Gambling Law and possibly be charged violation of enhanced community quarantine protocol.

In addition, government beneficiaries such as 4Ps and social amelioration recipients were also arrested after being involved in illegal activities such as gambling, illegal cockfighting, and drugs.
