Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs has raised the Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island to alert level 1, and has entered the period of unrest.

Kanlaon also spelled as Kanla-on or sometimes Canlaon, is an active stratovolcano on the island of Negros, Philippines. It is the highest point in Negros, as well as the whole Visayas, with an elevation of 2,465 meter above sea level.

The local government units and the public that entry into the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone they said that, ” it must be strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.”

Also, the civil aviation reminded the aircraft to stay away from flying near the crater due to the ejecta of volcanic eruption.

The Phivolcs said, “The increased seismic activity could be succeeded by steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit crater, despite the absence of visible degassing or steaming from the active vent this year,”
