Malacañang Declares February 9 Special Non-working Day for Chinese New Year

A special non-working day has been declared throughout the country on February 9, 2024, by Malacañang to commemorate the start of the traditional lunar Chinese New Year.

In order to officially mark January 18 as a special non-working day, President Bongbong Marcos and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 453.

The proclamation notes that the event is significant, saying,  “It will give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the Chinese New Year and enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend and enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend.” 

October 11, 2023’s Proclamation No. 368 also proclaimed Saturday, February 10, 2024 (Chinese New Year), as a special non-working day throughout the country.
