Liza Soberano was offered to audition as MJ or Michelle Jones-Watson that is played by Zendaya in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

This is the statement of Jeffery Oh, Chief Executive Officer of Careless, and the handling company of Liza’s career.

The Korean-American businessman, Jeffrey Oh believes that our local artists in the country are multi-talented individuals that capable of making great in the showbiz acting in the global scene. “I feel like in the Philippines, the talent is better. I think the world recognizes it. The Philippines is the most exciting place in the world for entertainment executives,” he said.

When Jeffrey Oh said this, he was on the panel of the 2nd Philippine Creative Industries Summit. But before he gives his closing message, he has pointing about Liza Soberano’s missed opportunity.

Who loves the character of Zendaya in [Spider-Man: Homecoming]?” he used this question to get the attention of the audience and said that Liza was offered to audition for the female lead character.

The businessman said “They reached out to her to audition [for the role of] Mary Jane, one of the most iconic characters. And she was not allowed because she had to do the same thing she was always doing,” he said.

The Careless CEO explained that the reason Liza was not able response the opportunity to audition for the female lead role in the Marvel movie was her contract with ABS-CBN. He also pointed out that Liza’s 10-year contract with her former home network was “unheard of anywhere else in the world.”

“Imagine a Filipina actress was [the star in] one of the biggest Marvel movies in history. Imagine [if] she was Mary Jane, what that would do for Philippine entertainment,” Jeffrey added that long term contracts of our Filipino actors and actress and the way the contract is regarded here in the country are the reason that hindered our artists to have the chance to extend their showbiz career and exploring and widen the international stage.

She could’ve been representing our country all over the world. There are other stars in the same situation,” he mean it to say about the opportunity for Liza Soberano.

On the other hand, it is obvious that Liza did not stop her ambition to make her name heard in the international level. As a matter of fact, when she decided to change her management, international opportunities are among the top reason. Liza’s former acting career was handled and managed by Ogie Diaz and Star Magic, the talent management company of ABS-CBN but lately transferred to Careless Management.

As to remember, Liza had already starting her international project, the movie Lisa Frankenstein, according to the article in Preview. Jeffrey Oh said that Liza has already had a chance to do the international project a year ago.

After this report surfaced on the social media, many of the netizens especially the supporters and fans of the actress are getting confused due to the statement of Careless CEO that seems contradicted to the previous statement of the actress on 2016.

According to the report publish on the page of PEP.com, the 25-year-old actress explained that it was not actually a formal invitation to her to audition as Mary Jane in the Spider-Man: Homecoming but it was her fans and supporters who made the noise on social media asking her for the project.

It’s not really an invitation, I think it was what the fans [of Marvel] wanted.

All my fans started re-tweeting it and everything, but wala naman po talagang invitation.”

Liza said that if she will be given a chance to play the international role she would gratefully considered it as opportunity in the showbiz career.  “I would love that [to play Mary Jane]. That would be a nice opportunity.”  She said.

As of the moment, our team is still searching the source about the current official statement of the actress regarding the issue revealed by the Careless CEO.
