The Water Level in the Marikina River Has Reached 16 Meters as a Result of the Paeng Rains

At 1:50 p.m., the Marikina City government issued the second alarm at Marikina River. on Saturday, as the water level rose due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng’s heavy rains (international name: Nalgae).

At 1:50 p.m., the water level had reached 16 meters.

Residents must evacuate low-lying and flood-prone areas when the second alarm sounds.

According to the Marikina City Public Information Office, all eight floodgates of the Manggahan Floodway are open.

The local government unit also stated that the following rainfall was measured upstream:

  • Mt. Campana: 11 mm
  • Mt. Boso Boso: 16 mm
  • Mt. Aries: 21 mm
  • Mt. Oro: 32 mm
  • Nangka: 22 mm
  • Total: 102 mm

The first alarm is triggered by the city’s alarm level system when the water level reaches 15 meters above sea level. This means that residents must “prepare.”

The second alarm is triggered when the water level reaches 16 meters (at which point residents must evacuate), and the third alarm is triggered when the water level reaches 18 meters (forced evacuation).
