Khimo Gumatay was crowned “Idol Philippines” season 2 winner on Sunday.

Gumatay won with 89 percent of the judges’ and public’s votes, beating out competitors Ryssi Avila and Kice.

“Alam kong malaking responsibilidad ‘to pero gagawin ko, ito na ang bagong simula ulit. Pagbubutihan ko pa ulit,” Gumatay stated this during his victory speech.

Gumatay wowed adjudicator Gary Valenciano with his message of new beginnings in his interpretation of Jem Macatuno’s “Bagong Simula.” He also played “My Time,” a new song written by Jeremy Glinoga.

“Pinatunayan mo talaga na this whole journey is a new beginning for you and tonight, ang ganda ng pagka-communicate mo sa tao na hindi ka tumayo riyan para mapanood ka ng tao pero para mapakinggan ka ng bawat isa, na marinig ka ng bawat isa roon sa mensahe ng kanta mo,” Garry stated.

Avila sang Victory Worship’s “Lilim,” while Kice sang Alamid’s “Your Love.” They also sang their new songs, “Totoo Na ‘To” by Rox Santos for Avila and “Angels” by Jon Guelas for Kice.

The winner of the “Idol Philippines” season will get a Dermacare franchise worth P3 million, a recording contract from ABS-CBN Music, P1 million in cash, and a house and lot from Camella Homes for P2.5 million.

Gumatay wowed the judges on the last day of auditions with his performance of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely,” earning him nominations from Valenciano, Regine Velasquez, Chito Miranda, and Moira dela Torre.
