President Rodrigo Duterte nicknamed the Philippines’ Republic the “Republic of Marites.” President Duterte declared the Philippines to be the “Republic of Marites” in his May 12 public speech.

He claims that nowadays, even men are addicted to gossip.

Duterte stated that “Kung gusto niyo ng tsismis, marami ako. This is a Republic of Marites na ngayon. Lahat ng tao may tsismis. Babae, lalaki. Noon sa mga babae lang iyan.”

“Lahat ng tao may tsismis, babae at lalaki. Noon sa mga babae lang ‘yan. Nag-aaway mga babae na pangalan Marites talaga,” Duterte stated.

He went on to say that he felt really bad for a lady named “Marites.”

“Nakakawawa mga babae na pangalan Marites talaga. Pagsabi dun sa classroom, Marites, ganun, tsismosa—lahat naman,” he stated.

Some cabinet members were seen smiling throughout the session.

This is Duterte’s first public appearance since the polls on May 9.

Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed “Pambansang Marites” is none other than Xian Gaza, a self-proclaimed social media influencer.

Gaza is very well known for his allegations and statements directed against well-known celebrities.

Apart from his posts on social media, he is also recognized for his expensive romantic approaches to celebrities.

In fact, he previously purchased a vehicle as a gift for his TikTok lover, Yukii Takahashi, and his most famous stint to yet was when he invited Blackpink member Jennie for a date through a billboard display.

Marites has become the national term for Filipino netizens who obsessively research and analyze every new topic, rumor, and unusual incident they come across on social media.
