President Duterte’s Presidency Left Him “Mentally and Physically Drained”

President Rodrigo Duterte’s close aide stated that the president is “drained” from leading the country.

The senator said in an ambush interview after the opening of the Center for Thoracic and Critical Care Medicine at CSMC (Cardinal Santos Medical Center) in San Juan City that the President has been working constantly and has been focused entirely on serving Filipinos until his last day in office on June 30, 2022.

The senator further mentioned how the president’s responsibilities drained him both mentally and physically. He went on to say that it’s only natural for President Duterte to be drained after years of public service.

“During his presidency, talagang piniga siya. Ibig sabihin, mentally, physically, and health wise, talagang piniga,” the senator emphasized. “Kapag isa kang Pangulo, talagang pipigain ka talaga. It’s a thankless job pero no regret po si Pangulo dahil ito na ang huling chapter ng kanyang buhay, ibinuhos na nya sa Pilipino.” (“During his presidency, he was really oppressed. I mean, mentally, physically and health wise, really beaten, ”the senator emphasized. “When you are a President, you will be really squeezed. It’s a thankless job but the President has no regrets because this is the last chapter of his life, he has already poured into the Filipino. ”) Go stated.

The President had previously been observed attending CSMC, which caused health worries. Senator Go said that President Duterte simply prioritizes his health in order to be able to serve the country effectively.

Similarly, the senator reassured Filipinos that there is no need to be concerned about President Duterte’s health because CSMC experts have been monitoring him to ensure that he is physically healthy and well enough to continue carrying out the heavy obligations of his position.

“Physically (fit) to finish his term? Oo, kaya pa and beyond. Oo, in good condition kaya nga sabi ko papasalamat tayo sa Cardinal Santos at kay doktora (Dr. Agnes del Rosario) din po for taking care of his (Duterte’s) health,” (“Physically (fit) to finish his term? Yes, so much and beyond. Yes, in good condition so I said we will thank Cardinal Santos and the doctor (Dr. Agnes del Rosario) as well for taking care of his (Duterte’s) health,”) Go stated.

When questioned for more information on President Duterte’s health, the senator stated that he is not a medical specialist and advised that answers from President Duterte’s physicians be provided instead.

Senator Go, for his part, stated that he has no idea which of the presidential candidates for the 2022 elections the President will support, if any.

“I cannot speak on behalf of the President. Nasa kanya na po ‘yan. Antayin na lang natin kung anong sasabihin niya sa mga susunod na araw,” (“I can’t speak on behalf of the President. He already has that. Let’s just wait and see what he says in the next few days,”) Go added.
