A teacher in San Luis in Aurora province died after she was bitten by a Philippine cobra right inside a classroom. Based on a report by GMA News’ Balitang Amianan, the deceased teacher was identified as Rizza Laureano, 49, an elementary school teacher.

According to her sister Michelle Donato, she came out of a toilet when she was bitten by a snake.

Laureano was rushed to the hospital but died three hours later.

According to a doctor who interviewed the program, a person bitten by a cobra can die if it is not treated immediately.

“Ang kanya pong venom ay nagko-cause ng mga paralysis sa ating katawan at maaarin pong mag-cause itong paralysis na ‘to ng paghina ng paghinga and maaapektuhan ‘yung daloy ng hangin sa katawan natin,” said Dr. Anna De Guzman, Pangasinan Provincial Health officer.
