Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez sent open letter to President Rodrigo Duterte

The COVID-19 cases in the country is continue increasing even after Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III announces that PH flattened the curve. As a matter of fact, the DOH recent record shows higher increase of COVID-19 cases that marked 80,448 total infected patients with 26,110 recovered from the deadly disease while 1,932 died as of writing.

Community quarantine raise in different areas in the country and new set of quarantine measures will be implemented soon on the affected areas. The health authorities are still strictly imposing quarantine protocols under the new normal. The wearing of face mask, social distancing and washing of hands are given importance to prevent the spread of the virus.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic one of the situation in the country that caught the attention of the netizens is about the massive volume of stranded individuals. The netizens alarmed the government to pay attention what was happening in Rizal Memorial Coliseum where stranded people are waiting for their turn to go back home.

One of the iconic person who gives his comment over the situation at Rizal Memorial Coliseum is Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez. On his move to bring the matter to the national government is to send open letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte through his Facebook account.

On his letter addressed to President Duterte, he was calling the attention of the in-charge of the “Hatid Tulong” program to address the situation and put strict compliance of the quarantine measure in order to avoid the spread of the virus. Gomez believes that the in-charge of “Tulong Hatid” is not knowledgeable to handle such a large number of people that because of too much crowded individual in one place the importance of proper social distancing was ignored for two (2) days.

Goma cited that in the absence of proper social distancing will lead for how many people to be infected while they are heading back on their respective provinces.

He also said that the in-charge will be fired for insensitivity and no regard for public health.
