LATEST UPDATE: New Coronavirus Strain in Cebu City

Coronavirus outbreak in China is now straining in Cebu City, Philippines according to the Department of Health (DoH) who is now conducting observatory measure for the said case of a 5-year-old child from Wuhan City, China who is currently confined in one of the hospital in the city of Cebu with registered case of non-specific pancorona virus based on the result.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III gives his official statement during the press conference on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in Manila.

Duque said, the child underwent screening and diagnosed but result is negative of the previous known strains of coronavirus MERS-COv (Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus) and SARS-COv (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus). 

He added that the child was noticed having cough and fever prior to the admission of the child in the hospital who is now under observation.

DOH also revealed other patients, the three Chinese nationals who are now under quarantine condition after noticed that these three persons are showing symptoms of the SARS-like virus from China.

Another record of patient under quarantine condition was a 29-year-old Chinese national who was admitted on January 17, 2020 and the 3-year-old girl who was also quarantined on the following day on January 18, 2020.

There are also individual person of the same case was found in Kalibo, a 65-year-old tagged after landing in the airport on Monday.

Dr. Cornelio Cuahon said, the 29-year-old patient was advised to stay for one day at DRSMTH while the 3-year-old was considered outpatient and the 65-year-old is under observation.

All of the patients were taken a blood sample and sent to the Research Institute in Manila for testing.
