PHIVOLCS posted reports of 3.1 Magnitude Earthquake hits Luna (La Union) on Tuesday Morning, January 7, 2020, around 02:31:23 AM. The location of the earthquake is 16.98°N, 119.81°E – 062 km N 77° W of Luna (La Union).

The Depth of Focus (Km) is 009 with the Origin “Tectonic.” There are no casualties have been reported.

(PHIVOLCS) is a service institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) that is principally mandated to mitigate disasters that may arise from volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami and other related geotectonic phenomena.

Phivolcs stated that they cannot predict when or where an earthquake or tsunami will happen. What they do is to prepare earthquake scenarios of hazards and impacts to be used as a guide for mitigation, preparedness, and response.

Additional Information, At 02:11 PM Philippine Standard Time (PST) of 15 December 2019 (Sunday), a strong Magnitude (M) 6.9 earthquake shook the province of Davao del Sur and vicinity (2019 biggest earthquake.)
