“To be home for Christmas” was the only simple wish of the different lumads who evacuated in the differenent places in Mindanao cause of the environment having much violent involvement in the military, paramilitary groups, and the New People’s Army (NPA).

In the Bulatlat it has been told by the Human Rights Group Karapatan that there are over 7,000 lumads who escaped from the 19 different accidents happening. Now, there were 3,000 evacues staying in Tandag Sports Complex in Surigao del Sur and there were still 1,000 who is now staying in the said United Church of Christ in the Philippines-Haran in Davao City.

The daughter of the deceased leader Dionel Campos shared, “It would be nice to celebrate Christmas in our homes,” However, there may never be home they will still celebrate Christmas together with their Christian brethren.

Meanwhile, though it has been stated that the paramilitary groups who caused the death of their loves ones are already disbanded, the mobd are convicted and arresred and though the governments are already forcing them to go back, they are still not be able to go back because they exactly know it not safe to go back now.
