Hidilyn Diaz is in tears after winning the first Olympic Gold medal for the Philippines at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This puts an end to the country’s Olympic gold medal drought.
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz will receive a total of P35.5 million plus a Tagaytay City house and lot. Here’s the breakdown: P10 million from Gov’t as law, P10 million from Manny V. Pangilinan, P10 million from Ramon S. Ang, P3 million from deputy speaker Mikee Romero and P2.5 million from her hometown Zamboanga City also by law.
In an interview last May of ABS-CBN news, Hidilyn Diaz shared how she was focusing on the technique and work ahead of Tokyo 2020. “I don’t want to promise to win gold, I just want to do it.”
Hidilyn Diaz carried the 127kg weight as if she carries the whole Philippines as she snatches the first-ever Olympic gold for the PH. After 97 years finally, the drought for gold is now over. For sure every Filipino is truly proud of you.
