Darlene Vibares surprised her fans after winning Season 1 of “The Voice Kids” when she was introduced as a member of a new Pinoy pop girl group.
Vibares was one of seven members of SBTown’s first-ever girl group YGIG (You Go, I Go) on Thursday, which attracted attention among netizens.
Vibares has grown up in the eight years since she appeared on the reality singing show for kids, and she appears to be ready to take on P-pop.
Vibares performed alongside Alexei, Maeg, JM, Vien, Hazelyn, and Jewel at the official launch of YGIG in Quezon City, where they also released their first single, “Shaba Shaba.”
She was the song’s main vocalist and rapper, and it has a hip-hop rhythm and an addictive melody.
“Shaba Shaba,” according to Vibares, tells the story of a girl who decides to cast a love spell on the person she likes.
“Initially po this song is about a confident girl who likes someone. But whenever that person is right in front of her, she gets very shy and very intimidated. That leads her po to cast a love spell to be able to get him,” she said.
She also added that it illustrates a girl’s determination and perseverance to become “the greatest version of herself” despite difficult situations.
In 2014, Vibares competed in the grand finals of “The Voice Kids” under the direction of Lea Salonga.
She finished fourth, trailing eventual winner Lyca Gairanod, second-place finisher Darren Espanto, and third-place finisher JK Labajo.
YGIG was trained by Korean trainer Adie Hong and participated in the SBTalent Camp.
