Because to Severe Tropical Storm Florita, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has canceled government activity and public school courses at all levels in Metro Manila and many other provinces commencing Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday, August 24.

According to Press Secretary Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles, the President declared a postponement of government work and classes in the National Capital Region (NCR), along with the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan, beginning at 1:00 p.m., in accordance with the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

“The President has declared a suspension of work and classes in all levels today until tomorrow for all government offices and public schools in NCR, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan, due to Severe Tropical Storm Florita,” Cruz-Angeles stated in an announcement.

“The heavy rains pose possible risks to the general public based on the recommendations of the Office of Civil Defense,” she noted.

Meanwhile, government entities responsible for the provision of basic and health services, disaster planning or response, and/or the execution of other critical activities will continue to operate.

According to the NDRRMC, the advised suspension will prevent any unforeseen situations and protect the general public’s safety.

However, Cruz-Angeles stated that work suspension for private enterprises and offices is at the decision of their individual leaders.

“The same course of action for private schools and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads,” she added.
