On Tuesday, during the third quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder [Wednesday in Manila], LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
LeBron James, who was named “The Chosen One” on the cover of Sports Illustrated when he was a 17-year-old high school student, fulfilled that prophecy by breaking the NBA scoring record with his 38,388th point during his historic career’s 20th season.
The “King” hit a mid-range jumper with 10 seconds in the third period to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s leading scorer.
The game was paused for a short ceremony in which Abdul-Jabbar and NBA commissioner Adam Silver recognized James for reaching yet another career milestone.
On 10.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter, James broke the record with a fadeaway. The audience cheered, and James hugged his mother. The game was paused to celebrate.
