The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2022 organizers expressed gratitude to all moviegoers, stating that long lines and sold-out screenings have returned after nearly three years of the pandemic.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting chairman Atty. Romando Artes shared his thoughts on the first day of the festival on Facebook.

In a Facebook post, MMFF spokesperson and film producer Noel Ferrer confirmed that the box office earnings from Day 1 of MMFF 2022 were higher than the box office gross of MMFF last year.

“Parang revenge viewing ang nangyari ngayon. Nasabik ang nga Pinoy sa pagpanood ng sine at ang kinita ngayon ay mas mataas pa sa total earnings ng MMFF last year,” Ferrer said.

In previous festivals, the MMFF committee agreed not to reveal the figures and rankings of the top grossers, leaving it to the producers to do so.

The rankings of the eight films are expected to shift after the “Gabi ng Parangal” (Awards Night) on December 27.

The organizers expect to release the official figures and rankings at the end of the festival on January 7, 2023.
