UFC Officials Released Statement About the Déath of Irish Professional MMA Fighter Connor Mc Gregor

In the year 2022, social media users circulated allegations and images that purported to show the déath of Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor.

The pictures appeared to show McGregor’s brief Wikipedia entry as it appeared in the Google search engine, replete with a rumored déath date of Aug. 3 or Aug. 4, 2022:

Snopes duplicated the McGregor “déath date” result with a simple Google search on Aug. 5, yielding “Diéd: August 4, 2022.”

McGregor, however, had not diéd at the time, and the August 2022 déath dates were the consequence of vandalism on McGregor’s Wikipedia biography in Spanish. A spokesman for the Wikimedia Foundation told Snopes:

The Spanish Wikipedia entry about Conor McGregor appears to have been altered yesterday to add a date of déath, which has now been fixed. Because Knowledge Graph results are derived from Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects, some vandalism may (in rare cases) be cached in search results, even after it has been handled on Wikipedia. The problem appears to have been fixed in search results as well.

Later that day, on August 5, the incorrect information was updated, and McGregor’s brief Wikipedia entry no longer included a déath date.

Despite the bogus déath claims, McGregor maintained his social media presence during the first week of August. On Aug. 4, he shared a photo on Instagram of his hand carrying a cellphone, which showed an Aug. 3 item from the Hollywood business website Deadline. This is extraordinarily strong evidence that he was alive on those dates.
