The ‘Karding’ Dèath Count has Risen to Nine

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) announced four more fatalities from Super Typhoon “Karding” on Tuesday, Sept. 27, bringing the total to nine.

According to NDRRMC spokesperson Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, two more dèaths were reported in Zambales, with the other two occurring in Bordeos and Polillo in Quezon province. Prior to this, the council confirmed the dèaths of five rescuers in a flash flood in San Miguel, Bulacan.

According to Alejandro, the four further instances will still be investigated to ascertain the nature and cause of their dèaths.

According to accounts, an elderly farmer perished in Cabangan, Zambales, when a dike was demolished by the storm. Meanwhile, a motorcycle rider dièd in San Felipe, Zambales, after his vehicle overturned while crossing a flooded roadway.

On Sunday night in Quezon province, a landslide buried a 70-year-old man in Bordeos town. The cause of dèath in Polillo, Quezon, is still unknown.

Meanwhile, three fishermen from Mercedes, Camarines Norte, have gone missing after venturing out into the typhoon’s ferocity.

The typhoon impacted 60,817 people or 16,476 households from 948 barangays in the National Capital Region (NCR), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region (1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Calabarzon (Region 4A), Mimaropa (Region 4B), and Bicol (Region 5).

46,008 people, or 12,352 households, remained in the 976 evacuation shelters.

The bulk of the 99 cities and municipalities that went black during the typhoon have yet to regain power. Only 28 cities and municipalities had recovered power as of Tuesday. Pangasinan, Isabela, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Quezon, Rizal, and Camarines Norte have the most power outages.

In addition, P1.6 million in aid has already been delivered to typhoon victims. These consist of family food packs, water, hot meals, and financial aid, among others.
