After a delay during the pageant’s announcement of the winners, which beauty queen MJ Lastimosa claimed was just a confusion mishap, Binibining Pilipinas may have confused pageant fans, including comedian Vice Ganda.

Catriona Gray and Nicole Cordoves, the hosts, took a long pause before announcing the winner of the Bb. The Pilipinas International crown was displayed in a live video yesterday, July 31, on the pageant’s YouTube channel. The candidates glanced at each other, appearing perplexed as to what was taking so long, while Gray and Cordoves were seen speaking to a staff member who came over to them on stage.

“Well, no pageant experience is complete without a whole lot of suspense,” Gray laughed next to her as Cordoves spoke.

Today, August 1, Vice Ganda commented on the announcement scene via his Twitter account.

“May very wrong!” he said. “Ano kayang meron sa kaguluhang iyon? Nawa’y walang nagkapalit ng korona.”

Lastimosa, who was present at the event, additionally initially tweeted her confusion. The American host Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner instead of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach in the 2015 Miss Universe incident, which was brought up by the speaker later.

“Kinabahan [ako] akala ko Steve Harvey moment. Pero bulaga si Cebu but Cebu is a powerhouse so there you go,” MJ Lastimosa stated.

The results were accurate, Lastimosa clarified in a subsequent tweet, and the pause was only brought on by some confusion on the “floor.”

“Walang cheka mga [accla coz] according to the [BPCI] correct ang results. Nalito lang daw sa floor hence the pause,”

The incident was also discussed by fans, some of whom demanded an explanation from the pageant’s organizers.

“That announcement of winners has a huge space for speculations and conspiracies. The audience [deserves] to have an explanation [regarding that] very long pause or else the audience will be left in doubt and confusion,” one @markzungx stated.

“OMG, IF IT’S WRONG ANNOUNCEMENT THEY SHOULD CORRECT IT RIGHT AWAY!!! PRIDE OVER TRUTH,” @donstutoch4ever stated.
