On Thursday morning, a low pressure area formed east of Visayas, according to the state weather bureau, PAGASA.
It was 300 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, as of 8 a.m.
It is expected to cross Southern-Central Luzon on Saturday and emerge over the West Philippine Sea on Sunday, where it could develop into a tropical depression.
The LPA will strengthen the southwest monsoon, or habagat, beginning Friday and lasting until early next week.
Monsoon rains are also expected to cause a rainy weekend in Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon, and Visayas.
In these areas, flooding and landslides are likely.
