On Sunday, a shooting occurred on the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) campus in Quezon City, killing three persons and injuring at least one.

Her camp revealed that the event murdered former Lamitan, Basilan Mayor Rose Furigay and her long-time assistant Victor Capistrano.

Jeneven Bandiala, a security guard, was also slain, according to Quezon City Police District Director BGen. Remus Medina said

Hanna Rose Furigay, Furigay’s 25-year-old daughter who was set to graduate today, was injured.

“Si Mayor sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the chest and in the head. Hanna, also in the head and in the abdomen,” Furigay’s counsel, Atty. According to Quirino Esguerra.

According to the dead former mayor’s legal counsel, the suspected shooter, Chao-Tiao Yumol, has a grievance against the Furigays for the closing of a clinic near Lamitan City Hall.

Yumol, a medical doctor, was shown to the media at the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal with a bleeding face.

He accused the Furigays of trafficking illicit substances in Basilan.

“Sana magamit ninyo ‘yung perang pinagkakitaan ninyo sa pagbebenta ng droga sa probinsiya namin, pagsira sa buhay ng mga kabataan sa Mindanao dahil sa pagbebenta ninyo ng droga,” Yumol said, adding that he hopes the current government can renew the drug war in Mind

The remains of the three victims who were reportedly slain by Yumol have been taken to funeral houses and will be autopsied.

Meanwhile, the ex-Mayor refutes the suspect’s assertion that he murdered her because of her supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade.

“That is not true,” Esguerra stated, adding that Lamitan City has received multiple honors for outstanding governance.

Yumol has been making unfounded claims against Furigay as early as 2018, forcing the lawmaker to launch at least 70 online libel lawsuits against him, according to Esguerra.

Meanwhile, Medina stated that Yumol arrived at the Ateneo campus using a ride-hailing service. Yumol was able to smuggle in two firearms since the ride-hailing car was not examined, according to Medina.
