A Palace official said Monday that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) will last 1 hour and 15 minutes without adlibs.

The President will deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) at around 4 p.m. at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

According to Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, Marcos is writing the speech himself.

The 64-year-old chief executive is expected to lay out his economic plans as well as the government’s COVID-19 response.

Food security and government digitalization are also expected to be prioritized.

The President is required by Article 7, Section 23 of the 1987 Constitution to “address the Congress at the opening of its regular session.”

Every year, on the last Monday of July, the Philippine president delivers the SONA to report on the state of the country, unveil the administration’s agenda for the coming year, and ask Congress to pass priority legislative measures.

So far, Marcos’ late father and namesake’s SONA remains the longest in terms of word count, with his 1969 speech clocking in at 29,335 words.
