Nico Santos, a Filipino-American actor best known for his work in the comedy series “Superstore” and the film “Crazy Rich Asians,” has joined the cast of Marvel’s next blockbuster, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”

Santos’ character has not yet been revealed, although production on the picture has recently wrapped, according to returning director James Gunn.

Santos’ involvement in Gunn’s film was also announced in a tweet, which included photographs of Santos smoking cigars with the “Guardians” ensemble and one with “Borat 2” breakthrough star Maria Bakalova, who was the final new addition before Santos.

“Hilarious & talented & sweet guy who, like me, got engaged during Vol. 3 because magic & love were in the air,” Gunn said, referring to his marriage to actress Jennifer Holland and Santos’ marriage to former “Survivor” participant Zeke Smith.

The Fil-Am actor played Oliver Tsien in 2018’s “Crazy Rich Asians,” referring to himself as “the rainbow sheep of the family.” Kris Aquino also made an unexpected appearance in the film as the regal Princess Intan.

Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will be the last installment of Gunn’s Guardians trilogy, picking up after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” and “Thor: Love and Thunder,” in which the Guardians appear.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Pom Klementieff all return to reprise their roles as the eponymous Guardians, as do Sylvester Stallone and Elizabeth Debicki from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

Will Poulter was already cast as the hero Adam Warlock, while “The Suicide Squad” star Daniela Melchior returns to the role.

The film will also mark the final appearance of Nico’s fellow Filipino-American star, Bautista, as Drax the Destroyer. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is set to be released in May 2023.
