Singer-actress Jolina Magdangal, among the most recognizable celebrity backers of Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential run, became emotional during her performance at the campaign’s thanksgiving gathering on Friday. Magdangal then changed the song’s final lyric, saying, “Para sa atin ‘to, bawat Pilipino. Sa puso natin, panalo tayo.”
On Friday, Magdangal was among many performers that returned to the thanksgiving stage, including Regine Velasquez, Jona, Cherry Pie Picache, Edu Manzano, and Bituin Escalante.
She sang “Kumilos at Manalangin (Ipanalo Natin ‘To,” an original song composed by Trina Belarmide and produced for the campaign in April, in favor of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.
The song refers to the “darkness” of corruption and disinformation, which may be conquered by the “light” of a combined people fighting for genuine leadership and truth. It also acknowledges faith as the movement’s fuel.
Magdangal, who was singing with the One Voice choir, was noticeably moved throughout the song. She looked away from the crowd for a moment to settle herself.
Magdangal, who was a regular host on Robredo’s and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan’s campaign trail, went to the stage during the “Tayo Ang Liwanag” gathering at the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City.
Robredo, who placed second behind presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., revealed during the meeting that her team will start the Angat Buhay non-governmental organization on July 1, the day after her time as vice president finishes.
