Duterte on Campaign Promise over Drugs: “I Realized na Nagkamali talaga Ako”

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte stated that his campaign commitment to exterminate drugs in the Philippines within six months was incorrect.

In 2016, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte won a  victory.  Rodrigo Roa Duterte won by a large margin. He is a former Davao City mayor who served his community for over two decades. He made two (2) clear campaign statements when he was still a candidate for president.

The mayor of Davao City at the time committed to solve the country’s corruption problem. He also promised to solve the country’s drug issue in six (6) months.

But, Mr. President, Duterte’s time as president is coming to a close, but the country continues to struggle with drug abuse. The President has already stated that he underestimated the size of the country’s drug problem.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte just announced that his term will end in less than three (3) months. Rodrigo Roa Duterte restated his election promise to rid the Philippines of drugs in six months. He claims that he made such a commitment out of “hubris,” or excessive pride or confidence.

In addition, the President stated that it was campaign season and that it was time to boast. He made the comment at the inauguration of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway in Cebu, according to ABS-CBN News.

“Sinasabi ko I can clean it in six months. Then after that, I realized na nagkamali talaga ako… Maybe it’s hubris. It was campaign time. Payabangan naman ‘yang kampanya,” Duterte stated.

He brought his head of police in Davao City, former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief and now Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, with him when he became President. He stated that he will not be president for the next six months, but that he may find a way if those involved in drug trafficking continues.
