Is Jan Catherine Sy Died on “Leptospirosis” Not Sepsis?

Jan Catherine Sy, daughter of businessman Big Boss, Henry Sy, Jr. died at a premature age of 29. She was indeed young, strong and in good health before she was admitted to the hospital. Jan’s doctor claimed there were no signs of disease or virus brewing had been visible.

It was a shocking report following after the death of SMDC Vice President of the real estate arm, Jan Catherine Sy, granddaughter of business tycoon Henry Sy, Sr., a Filipino-Chinese who was the founder of SM Group of company in the country. According to Forbes, he was the richest man in the Philippines for over a decade. But he died in January 19, 2019 at the good age of 94.

His chair was succeeded by his son Henry Sy, Jr. and is called also the “Big Boy.” One of the executive officials in their companies is his daughter Jan Catherine Sy who stands as Vice President of SMDC, the real estate arm of the SM Group of companies.

Suddenly, the trying time came to the Sy family. It was the death Henry Sy, Jr’s eldest daughter, Jan Catherine. Many were saddened especially her colleagues in the company and her family members.

According to the earlier report, a finding of the cause of death of Jan Catherine was sepsis, a condition that refers to the reaction of the body against infection but it damages the tissues. There was plenty of blood required by the doctors and many were quick to response the needs of Jan as the family requested. Yet, her time ended, she did not survive from the bacterial infection.

According to the report published by Meaww website, doctors of the 29-year-old saw nothing of the signs but doctors considered “Leptospirosis” as the highest possibility for the illness. This statement was shared by the family to friends while Jan Catherine was admitted to the hospital. Prior to that, Covid-19, dengue, hepatitis, and malaria had been ruled out by the doctors.

The statement reads, “They are still not sure what this is, but the highest possibility is that it is bacterial infection that resulted in leptospirosis. This is possible if even a small cut that can go unnoticed is made.” It was also added that “no signs of a disease” or virus brewing had been visible in Jan and that she was “young and strong,” the statement says.

Report also said that the patient was administered by the doctors of strong antibiotics and steroids in order to regain the life from which her father Henry Sy, Jr. was so thankful but Jan succumbed her life.
