Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) revealed from their record the two youngest girls in the Philippines who give birth at the age of 10-year-old.

The case of adolescent pregnancy increase this year is seriously alarming and according to the Popcom, this is considered a national emergency.

According to Popcp, NCR Director Lydio Español Jr., authorities have recorded two registered live birth and considered the youngest in the Philippine history from the two (2) girls, one (1) from National Capital Region (NCR) and another one (1) is from Region 4-A (Calabarzon).

“Although a declining trend was observed in both age brackets, the case of a 10-year-old getting pregnant has sounded the alarm for all local government units to harmonize their efforts for stronger and better initiatives on adolescent reproductive health, Español.

Español clarified that giving birth at the premature age is a high risk for the health of the mother who is getting pregnant up to the time of her delivery as well as to the baby she is carrying. In addition to difficulty are the pandemic situations of the country at this time that impedes maternal services.

The incident prompted the Popcom-NCR to do the best effort in order to reduce teenage pregnancies in the region. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is also working for the Social Protection Program to extend proper guidance for the teenage mothers and their children like of this case.

The PSA also revealed their record as to how much actual number of adolescent pregnancy and giving birth with the age ranging 10-19 years old since the past 2019 which include record from Quezon City at 4,246, City of Manila at 3,782, Caloocan City at 2,429, Pateros at 95, and San Juan at 100.
