The Quiapo Church announces alternative plans to celebrate the feast of the Black Nazarene which is annually held every 9th of the month of January yearly. This is in connection to the cancellation of the traslacion of the Black Nazarene for this year 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to cancel the traslacion next year was agreed by the Quiapo Church officials and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene Parochial Vicar Fr. Douglas Badong confirmed the report. Fr. Douglas Badong also informed devotees that long novenas will be conducted in substitute to the cancelled traslacion this year. The novena will start from dawn until night, Badong said.

“Hahabaan natin ang nobinaryo. Lahat ng misa dito sa Quiapo ay magiging misa-nobena para sa kapistahan ng Nazareno. Oras oras po ‘yan (We’ll have longer novenas. All of the masses held in Quiapo Church will be a novenary mass for the Feast of the Black Nazarene. It will be conducted hourly),” he told reporter.

Similar report published in Manila Bulletin saying that Quiapo Church rector Monsignor Hernando Coronel clarifies that even if the traslacion of the Black Nazarene from Luneta to Quiapo was already agreed for cancelation but masses will still be held for the devotees.

Church blessing of the replicas of the Black Nazarene will continue as usual on the simultaneous motorcade for the church visit to different city-parishes in Metro Manila.
