Rescued and Missing Update: Gulf Livestock 1 Sank Due to Typhoon Maysak “Julian”

MV Gulf Livestock 1 hit by the Typhoon Maysak or “Bagyong Julian” from the Philippines heading to Japan within the area of the East China Sea yesterday.

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Osaka, Japan has confirmed that the chief mates of Gulf Livestock 1 Edwardo Sereno 45-year-old was rescued and in safety condition but some other crews including the 38 Filipinos are still missing as of writing. MV Gulf Livestock 1 boarded with 43 crews including 39 Filipinos, 2 New Zealand, 1 Australian and 1 Singaporean.

According to Bombo Radyo Bacolod, one of the 39 Filipino crews of Gulf Livestock 1 is from Barangay Bata Bacolod City identified as Andren Diamartin Payas whose wife is from Barangay Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

Sereno said that he noticed their engine off before the boat hit by the strong waves. He also narrated that all of them were alarmed to wear a lifejacket and he was able to jump to the water and remain there until he was rescued. He also said he did not see anybody else because it was so dark.

Gulf Livestock 1 is a registered motor boat in Panama left Napier, New Zealand on August 14, 2020 loaded with 5,867 milking cows. The Gulf Livestock 1 is heading to the Port of Jingtang Tangshan, China with the estimated 17 days navigation to reach the destiny on September 3, 2020.
