Breaking News: Chopper of Philippine Air Force Crashes in Lantawan Basilan

Military helicopter crashes in Lantawan, Basilan province on Wednesday afternoon, September 16, 2020 due to bad weather condition.

The incident causes 4 onboard died in the accident.

According to the initial report, the aircraft of the Philippine Air Force 505th Search and Rescue Group with tail number 202 crashes because of the strong gust of wind in Lantawan town at around 1p.m. today.

Lantawan municipal administrator Tahira Ismael said the strong gust of wind followed by the heavy downpour causing the aircraft crashed within the said jurisdiction.

The four dead bodies on board was identified one female recovered near the site crash.

The aircraft was heading to Zamboanga from Jolo carrying civilian personnel to evacuate to the said destination.

The crash incident was also confirmed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command.

The incident involving the chopper crash today is the second chopper crash by the PAF in two months.

Last July 23, a Huey (UH-1D) helicopter with tailgate number 8308 crashes in the area of Cauayan Air Station in Isabela. The chopper landed shortly after taking off for a night vision goggles (NVG) proficiency training in the vicinity of the Tactical Operations Group (TOG-2).
