The Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepts luxurious accessories such as branded bags, shoes and wallets of a high end quality worth amounting to Php15,000,000.

According to the source, the smuggled considered items were declared as “canned goods.” The BOC concluded that the shipment is illegal knowing that the misdeclaration of goods is an apparent attempt to evade payment of correct duties and taxes by circumventing duty and tax free privileges afforded to balikbayan boxes.

The BOC did not give further information about the illegal goods.

The online community also expressed reactions over the said smuggled items. Some says it was a blatant attempt of tax evasion and it needs to be confiscated by the authorities. While some said, the goods can be returned to the owner then charged with taxes and penalties.

There are also questions if the goods are confiscated, where will this go if not claimed by the owner?
