Details of 6.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Masbate

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) released official report regarding the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that jolted Masbate on August 18, 2020.

According to the PHIVOLCS, the 6.5 magnitude recorded at the specific area of Cataingan, in the province of Masbate at around 8:03 morning of August 18, 2020 with 11.98° north, 123.98°East – 005 km South 17° West of Cataingan. The origin of the earthquake is tectonic by nature with the depth of 001 kilometers.

PHIVOLCS said the earthquake did not cause damages so far and there is no aftershocks expected after the event.
