Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialist and former congresswoman Dr. Anna York Bondoc is making appeal to the government to ban the use of Antibody Serology or Rapid Tests.

In her video, Bondoc clarifies that the rapid testing is highly inaccurate and produce many false positive results causing to put many people in quarantine.

Bondoc also said that there are instances that people who have coronavirus infection cleared by the rapid tests resulting the spread of the disease due to the false negative of the rapid test result.

“I believe that wrong clinical decisions made with inaccurate results from rapid tests have been fuelling the rise of COVID cases in Metro Manila,” she said.

Bondoc cited her appeal of banning the rapid test from other country that also banned the rapid tests including Australia, Dubai, and India for inaccurate and unreliable results.

Bondoc also said that some companies are taking advantage over the crisis to generate income citing the widespread wrong use of the test in the Philippines.

Bondoc also added that the requirement for a rapid testing causes an unnecessary expenses to the patients.

On the other hand, Infectious Diseases Specialist Edsel Maurice Salvaña also speaks of his side confirming that the antibody testing can do nothing to sick patients because it usually gives a negative result in the early stages of the disease. He clarifies that symptomatic patients should immediately undergo Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests and place to isolation.

Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Je-Anne Combate also thumbs up the idea of banning the rapid testing because of the reason that it is not 100% accurate instead recommends for the pregnant women to undergo RT-PCR tests.

The earlier letter of the Philippine College of Physicians to President Rodrigo Duterte cited the reason of inaccuracy in the result of the antibody rapid tests. The sentiment is, many believes that people who were registered false negatives are sent home and then contribute to the surge of COVID-19 cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) considers RT-PCR or swab tests is the standard and more accurate for detection of the virus in a human body.
