ABS-CBN Retrenched Workers Can Avail Loans on Pag-Ibig Fund, SSS, DTI and Department of Agriculture

MALACAÑANG – Malacañang issued statement on their plan to help retrenched workers of ABS-CBN following after the network failed to get franchise renewal on Friday, July 10, 2020 during the Congressional Hearing where seventy (70) over eleven (11) members of the Congress voted to kill the network due to many reasons in the ground to deny the renewal of another 25 years of congressional franchise.

In connection to this, the Malacañang expressed their good intention to help retrenched employees by granting to the retrenched workers of the ABS-CBN that they can apply loans on the government agencies including Pag-ibig Fund and Social Security System (SSS) in addition to the former livelihood loans offered by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Agriculture (DA).

However, Malacañang Spokesperson Harry Roque also noted that that he has already called Labor Secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III to facilitate a one-stop-shop to assist the retrenched workers of the Kapamilya Network where they can get necessary documents for applying a new job. The one-stop-shop is participated by the leading government agencies that include the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to get the clearance needed by the applicant, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for the need of their birth or marriage certificates and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) for the professional licenses.

Moreover, Roque also mentioned the “TUPAD” ‘Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers is a community-based emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) where every beneficiary will be compensated on their daily work that lasts only from 10-30 days.

Roque added that the program offered by the government is intended to help displaced workers during the COVID-19 crisis.
