Some politicians are suggesting to rename Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to “Paliparang Pandigdig ng Plipinas (PAPAPI).

The suggestion of renaming NAIA to PAPAPI earned mixed comments from the online world in different social media platform like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

According to report, the politicians suggesting the change of the name of NAIA originated from Presidential son Paolo Duterte, ACT CIS Representative Eric Go Yap and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco with the filed document in the Congress House Bill No. 7031.

The proponent said that the suggested name “Paliparang Pandigdig ng Plipinas” described no political agenda. Lawmakers added that the bill is seeking to rename the name of the airport in order to give more emphasis and to represent branding for the international gateway of the country having no political color described therein and no agenda behind, says PhilStar.com.

However, Senator Kiko Pangilinan said, the renaming of the NAIA should not be given priority in the time of pandemic in connection to the house bill was filed amid COVID-19 crisis and the increase of the infected cases in the country still rising until this date of writing.
