CLASSES SUSPENSION– From the opinion of former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, he suggested that classes for this school year in public schools and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) should be postponed until January 2021.

The general opinion of the parents in the country are not willing to send their children to school while there is no available vaccine for the COVID-19 pandemic disease to ensure the safety of their children.

However, the Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that classes for the school year 2020-2021 will start on August 24, 2020, Monday. The department also gives alternative option for the private schools to start classes ahead of time earlier this month of June.

Recently, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV took to his Facebook account to express his opinion with regards to the opening of classes. According to his post classes in public schools and universities should be suspended until January 2021 due to risk of life of our students amid the killer coronavirus disease.

“In light of the uncertainties and anxieties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am respectfully urging DepEd and CHED to reconsider their declaration of Aug. 24 opening of classes, and consider the following policy proposals in relation to the opening of classes,” he wrote.

However, Trillanes suggested that the public school may resume classes as schedule granting only to implement online classes and the school should not be allowed to hold laboratory classes in connection to the precautionary measure against pandemic.

“Public elementary and high schools to open in January 2021… SUCs to open in January 2021, except graduate schools which may open in August 2020, provided they implement full online courses only,” he said.
