Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City said on Thursday morning that the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Quezon City has climbed to 31.
“Ang latest natin ay 31 cases,” she said in an interview on ‘Dobol sa News TV.’
Barangay Tandang Sora was put under extremely enhanced community quarantine after cases were reported from three households in the area.
Belmonte said that the transmission of the virus in an urban poor community is rapid.
She added “Doon sa extreme enhanced quarantine, may 500-meter radius around the warm zone,” she is afraid that the police manpower may not be enough if more areas will be put under the same setup.
“If you put everything under extreme enhanced community quarantine, magkukulang talaga ang manpower ng Quezon City Police District,”
Mayor Belmonte is worried that by the fourth week of the enhanced community quarantine, their fund may all be used up. Belmonte said that she will work with private individuals as well as other politicians to raise funds.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD are tasked to provide food for Luzon citizens after it was placed under community quarantine.
