Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) episode on July 29, 2017 features Yves Flores as Roy Basa. Roy Basa is being born into poverty in the land of Murcia, Negros Occidental. Both hacienda workers, Roy have 7 siblings and determined not to followed himself to the fate of poverty.

He finds hope in the form of education and believes in hard work to finish his studies. Roy is the eldest among siblings and motivated to fulfill his dreams to help his family. He obtains a high school scholarship, graduated as class valedictorian from La Consolacion Academy in Murcia in 1998.

In college, he got an academic scholarship in college but Roy still needs to provide his allowance and do a night shift jobs. After his hard work and perseverance, he graduated his degree in Education major in General Science at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) in March 2001.

Dr. Roy Basa, a biology teacher (Master Teacher I) at Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) Night Class Department in Bacolod City, will be recognized as one of the 10 awardees of Metro bank Foundation Inc.’s 2016 Search for Outstanding Teachers. He also got recognition rites at the Malacañang Palace.
