Announcement made by President Rodrigo Duterte has severely signalled to the country’s 70-year alliance with the United States of America on military and economic ties has ended thus giving way in favour of China and Russia.

Experts, critics and ordinary netizens have their own mixed reactions to the President’s shocking decisions to its oldest and strongest ally.

Reduced Aid and Trade for PH – Professor Jay Gonzalez, a Filipino political expert from Golden Gate University said, cutting ties with the United States of America has many political and economic involvement in both countries thus decreasing the trade with major trading partner, investment and BPO partner.

Creating Unnecessary Uncertainty, Confusion – As for the US Embassy official, President Duterte’s announcement has created uncertainty and confusion, the US government will be expecting some explanations on this controversial statement.

Separation: A Disaster for the US – It has been reported and published on the US-based Foreign Policy revealing the shift of alliance of the Philippines to China might be a potential disaster to the US.  It’s difficult for them to hinder Beijing’s moves in the South China and East China seas.
