Intensity 5.3 Earthquake Hits Northern Luzon and Parts of Metro Manila

Parts of Northern Luzon and Metro Manila at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2016, was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3, The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The time was recorded at exactly 09:40:04 p.m. with epicentre at 16.47°N, 119.42°E – 051 km N 81° W of Bolinao, Pangasinan.  With its tectonic origin, it has a depth of 26 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt by an intensity IV in Lingayen, Pangasinan and Alilem and Ilocos Sur.  Intensity III at San Carlos, Pangasinan, Intensity II felt in Makati City, Pasig City and Quezon City.  The intensity I hit in Pasig City, Olongapo City, Baler, Aurora and Dagupan City.

Netizens told the Summit Express that they have felt the earthquake in Pangasinan, La Union and Quezon City.  But there are no reports of damage or injury after the earthquake thus Phivolcs warns the public of possible aftershocks.
