Be Careful With My Heart Makes Malaysians Feel Closer to the Filipino Culture

The love story of Maya and Sir Chief in a daytime television drama premiered on ABS-CBN “Be Careful With My Heart” has captured the hearts of many Malaysians. According to a Malaysian product development manager of Selangor Tourism Saad “Daniel” Mahasah said that many Malaysians are glued to their TV sets at 3:p.m. every weekday from Monday to Friday just to follow the love story of Sir Chief and Maya in “Be Careful With My Heart.”

“Be Careful With My Heart” is one of the most popular foreign dramas on Malaysia television show right now which is aired in Filipino with Malaysian subtitles.

Daniel said that watching the Filipino TV drama makes him feel closer to Filipinos and becomes familiar with the behavior.

“For me, it’s very good because we can watch a different story. We can see Filipino traditions through TV. You can also learn new words and see similarities (in our cultures)…. It makes Manila much closer to Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

He also related how his policeman friend, who works at Sarawak loves so much to watch “Be Careful With My Heart.”

“I have a friend who is a policeman in Sarawak and he is the last person I would think would watch dramas. But when I called him up, he says he’s watching the drama at the police station with everyone,” Daniel laughed.

Another Malaysian woman who loves to watch the “Be Careful With My Heart” named Maria, who use to stay at home admitted that she cannot afford to skip a single episode of the show. She is watching always with her five daughters.

“I like it very much… (Sir Chief) is very handsome,” she said.

Like many of Malaysians teleserye lovers of “Be Careful With My Heart”, Maria and Daniel proves that the Filipino drama makes its name abroad.

Philippine embassy officials are glad that Filipino TV dramas are good instruments in helping to bridge the cultural gap between the Filipino country and Malaysia.

The story of “Be Careful With My Heart” staring Jodi Sta. Maria as nanny Maya who falls in love with her employer Sir Chief, portrayed by Richard Yap becomes popular not only in the Philippines but in some other countries as well.
