Top seed TNT won the coveted title Thursday night at Robinsons Place Manila, capping off an outstanding run in the PBA 3×3 Third Conference.
And the Tropang Giga did it in style, coming back from a 19–15 deficit in regulation to defeat finals foe Purefoods, 21–19, by sinking the game-winning two-pointer in overtime.
Gryan Mendoza began the valiant comeback with back-to-back baskets and finished it with a thunderous dunk off an assist from Almond Vosotros to win the title and the P750,000 prize money for the Tropang Giga.
Mendoza led TNT in scoring with eight in the game-winning play, while Vosotros made five shots against Purefoods’ tenacious defense. After winning the first, third, and fourth legs, TNT seized the top crown in the conference. Samboy de Leon and Lervin Flores each added four more.
“Grabe ang pinakitang puso ng players ko. Last 1:30 we’re down by four, Purefoods (was) two points away from winning the championship. We just didn’t give up. This is the type of team we have,” TNT coach Mau Belen said.
The Titans generated six apiece from Marvin Hayes and Joseph Eriobu but were unable to finish the game and duplicate their triumph against TNT from Leg 6 last week.
For second place and P250,000, Hayes, Eriobu, Jed Mendoza, and Jun Bonsubre were content.
After defeating San Miguel Beer 21-20 for P100,000 in the third-place game, Sista Super Sealers took the last podium spot.
