MANILA, Philippines (AP) —In the newly released official trailer for Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is given an even better look as the Mighty Thor opposite Chris Hemsworth, after a fleeting glance in a teaser trailer.
For the first time since 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World,” the second of the “Thor” flicks, some of the new footage in the new teaser shows Hemsworth and Portman’s characters interacting more.
Portman only appeared in “Avengers: Endgame” via archival video, which also happened to be the last time Marvel fans saw Thor. There are no specifics on how Foster is able to handle Thor’s first damaged hammer, Mjolnir, but their connection is undeniable.
Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie asks Thor, “Am I sensing feelings?” This is followed by a different footage of Hemsworth demonstrating his comedy abilities once more.
Christian Bale makes his debut appearance as Gorr the God Butcher, the film’s villain who has vowed to wipe out all gods from mythology.
The majority, if not all, of Gorr’s sequences are shot in grayscale, which is a stark contrast to the bright, ’80s synth mood that has pervaded the “Thor” saga since director Taika Waititi took over—he returns to direct and voice Korg.
In the trailer’s last scene, Russell Crowe’s Zeus accidentally flicks off Thor’s garments, revealing his edited naked body, which is still extremely adult for a Marvel or Disney film, and several witnesses pass out.
Also starring in the new film are Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, Jaimie Alexander’s Sif, and the Guardians of the Galaxy — Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel’s Groot, and Filipino-American actor Dave Bautista’s Drax.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” will arrive in cinemas on July 8.
