According to authorities, US rapper A$AP Rocky was detained Wednesday when he landed at Los Angeles International Airport for a gunshot incident last year.

Rakim Mayers, A$AP Rocky’s real name, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the incident in Hollywood last November.

Mayers, 33, is expecting a child with music diva Rihanna, and according to TMZ, he was detained while returning by private plane from her home island of Barbados.

The arrest was made in connection with a “argument between two acquaintances” on November 6, 2021, in Hollywood, which “resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim.” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim, who has not been identified, received minor injuries, and the culprit escaped on foot with two other males. Detectives later recognized him as Mayers.

Mayer’s attorney did not reply quickly to an AFP request for comment.

Last year, Mayers’ connection with Rihanna, the millionaire entertainment and fashion tycoon behind the songs “Diamonds” and “Umbrella,” was revealed.

The rapper referred to Rihanna as the “love of my life” and “the one” in an interview with GQ magazine published in May 2021.

Mayers, who was born in New York, was previously detained in Stockholm in 2019 for a street fight.

He was detained in Sweden for more than a month in an event that attracted international notice, and he was given a suspended sentence.
